Block Development Officers have been tasked to manage the bank accounts of the panchayats in Lakshadweep as their tenure has expired. The tenure of all Village Island Panchayats except Bitra Island ended on December 18.

The tenure of Bitra Village Island Panchayat will end on January 4, 2023. Panchayat Department Director Rakesh Kumar Danix has issued an order instructing the block development officers of the respective islands to manage the bank accounts of the village island panchayats as there are no members such as chairperson and vice chairperson.

Earlier, the bank accounts were managed by the chairperson and the executive officer of the Village Dhilip Panchayat. The accounts will be managed by the BDO and the Executive Officer until further orders. Accounts will be handled by the responsible officials in Bitra Dhipil Panchayat, whose tenure will expire on January 4.
