Petition in the High Court against the newly enacted Panchayat Regulation in Lakshadweep. The petition was filed by T. Abdul Khader Kavarathi Village Dweep Panchayat Chairperson and Abbas, Vice Chief Councilor of Lakshadweep District Panchayat.
Many sections of the new regulation are unconstitutional. The petition also states that the public gave many suggestions in this regard, but nothing was considered.
In the absence of any complaint or problem against the existing panchayat regulations, the petitioners demand that such a move destroys the democratic character of the panchayat system and the new regulation should be quashed.
