Preparations at the port as monsoon-related transport restrictions for Uru are lifted today. 3 Uru for cargo movement to Lakshadweep have been along side at the wharf. Marine Line, Murugan Thunai and Shalom have arrived at the port.
Passenger vessel schedules will also be ready in the coming days. As per Mercantile Marine Rules, there is a partial restriction of movement of water vessels at Beypur, a non-major port, from May 15 to September 15. During this period the ships will be anchored on the coast. Passenger ferry services will also be suspended.
During the control period, MV Laccadives, Ubaidullah, Thinnakkara, Sagar Samraj, Sagar Yuvraj and Eli Kalpeni were used to deliver food products, construction materials and other raw materials to the island.
By the end of this week, if the weather conditions are favorable, the Urus will start their journey to the island for this season. From Beypur to Lakshadweep, cargo is mainly transported by Uru, In addition to food items, cement, jelly, wire, furniture, cows, salt, etc. are all transported by Urus. There are 25 barges from Vankara to Lakshadweep. kaddalore, Thoothukudi and Mangaluru in Tamil Nadu are involved in trade between Lakshadweep and Beypur. There is a large volume of cargo movement from Mangaluru port to the island.
