Smt. Cynthia Conceicao, the company’s senior-most female employee, launched the indigenous LPG cylinder carrier vessel for the Union Territory of Lakshadweep (Lakshadweep Administration) in the honourable presence of Shri Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay, Chairman and Managing Director, Capt. Jagmohan, Director (CPP&BD), customer representatives, and senior GSL officials.
GSL – Lakshadeep Administration
This indigenous LPG cylinder carrier vessel was developed and designed by Goa Shipyard Limited as a dual screw vessel for carrying 2000 nos. This one-of-a-kind ship transports LPG cylinders from the mainland to several islands in Lakshadweep and is outfitted with the most cutting-edge gear and control systems.
According to IRS classification guidelines, the vessel is constructed with an effective hull form for stability and seakeeping purposes, following IMO norms and Flag state requirements. The ship has two 700 BHP engines, three DG sets, and a beam of 10 metres. Its overall length is 55 metres.
Competitiveness of GSL
It is noteworthy that GSL won the contract for these two vessels despite fierce competition from both public and private yards. This boosts GSL’s competitiveness in a variety of non-defence shipbuilding markets in addition to its leading position as a defence shipbuilder working on prestigious warship projects.
