P M Sayeed was a Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha and Member Parliament from Lakshadweep for ten consecutive terms. His winning run continued till 1999, till he lost the 2004 election by a mere 71 votes. A government employee from mainland committed suicide at Kavarathi in Lakshadweep after his journey was canceled due to non-confirmation of the ship ticket. Bhagwan Kandari, an office worker at India Reserve Battalion headquarters, committed suicide last night. Colleagues say that he had minor mental problems. Therefore, the IRB staff were making efforts to send him home. He had a waiting list ticket on the last ship. His colleagues say that he could not board the ship because of that, so his colleagues arranged a confirmation ticket for him to board the ship which reached Kavarathi yesterday. But it is known that when he went to board the ship, he showed a waiting list ticket and therefore the police officers who checked the ticket sent him back.
